Background of the Study
Recruitment and selection are fundamental HR functions that influence workforce quality, employee productivity, and organizational performance. Effective recruitment strategies help organizations attract and retain top talent, while poor hiring decisions can result in high turnover rates and reduced job performance (Afolabi & Uchenna, 2024).
First Bank Nigeria Plc, one of the country’s leading financial institutions, employs various recruitment and selection methods, including aptitude tests, structured interviews, and assessment centers. However, the effectiveness of these strategies in improving job performance remains an area of concern (Ojo & Nwachukwu, 2023). This study aims to examine the impact of recruitment and selection processes on job performance in First Bank Nigeria Plc, Katsina State.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the structured recruitment processes in First Bank Nigeria Plc, there are concerns about employee turnover, skill mismatches, and declining job performance. Hiring inefficiencies may result from outdated recruitment practices, bias in candidate selection, and inadequate onboarding programs (Obi & Salami, 2024).
While studies have explored recruitment strategies in banking, few have specifically examined their impact on job performance in First Bank Nigeria Plc. This study seeks to fill this gap by analyzing the effectiveness of recruitment and selection processes in the bank’s Katsina State branch.
